Diminished Chords Made Easy

Fully Diminished Chords can be just as tricky as half-diminished chords to visualize on the guitar.

But thankfully there is a shortcut to visualizing fully diminished chords as well.

Here it is:

Picture diminished 7 chords as a dominant 7 chord with a raised root.

Click here for neck diagrams of some common voicings.

Spend some time with these voicings. Also, apply this visualization technique to all the other dominant 7 voicings you know to expand your vocabulary of diminished 7 chords.

To take this idea even further, you could apply the same visualization technique to arpeggio shapes. This will give you plenty of ideas for soloing over diminished chords.
