When you're on stage, you have two options for how you approach your performance.
Option 1: Play with reserve. Hold back. Play it safe.
Option 2: Play out. Mean every note you play. Take risks.
Option 1 is the easy road. You'll blend in, you won't turn heads, and you are pretty much guaranteed not to play any "wrong" notes.
Option 2 can be scary. But option 2 is your only option if you want people to care about the music you play or the message your music intends to communicate.
Choose option 2. Don't wait for that magical day when you "know everything you need to know" or "have your chops together". That day is a mirage.
