The Secret to Playing Fast

Playing fast is cool. Tacky? Sure, sometimes. But exactly what's needed at other times.

If increasing your speed on guitar is one of your goals, there's a fundamental practice technique that you must adhere to...

GO SLOW.

To be more specific, never practice at a tempo faster than that at which your playing is both at ease and technically flawless.

Here's my guarantee - 5 minutes spent working slowly on perfecting your technique is far more beneficial than 20 hours of sloppy, fast playing.

If you try to play fast too soon, your playing gets sloppy. This will cause you to develop bad habits and poor muscle memory.

The alternative is going slow enough in your practice to control all muscle movements and develop strong muscle memory. Over time this slow practice will develop great habits that will make fast playing easy.

Practice smart. Practice slow.
